All organisations must ensure they have in place safe recruitment policies and practices, including enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks for all staff, including agency staff, students and volunteers, working with children. It is an offence knowingly to employ a person who has been barred by the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) from working in posts which involve caring for or treating children. Information about whether a person is barred will be given on an enhanced CRB check. From 26 July 2010, staff can register under the new Vetting and Barring Scheme and from November 2010 registration will be compulsory for new entrants to the workforce.
