Safeguarding is a key function of the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass). Section 12(1) of the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000 sets out Cafcass’s duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children involved in family proceedings in which their welfare is, or may be, in question.
