The Common Assessment Framework (CAF) is a tool to enable early and effective assessment of children and young people who need additional services or support from more than one agency. It is a holistic consent-based needs assessment framework which records, in a single place and in a structured and consistent way, every aspect of a child’s life, family and environment. National eCAF, still being developed, will be a secure IT system for storing and accessing information captured through the CAF process. Practitioners will only be given access to information on national eCAF for a child or young person with whom they are working and then only with the specific consent of the child or young person (or parent/carer as appropriate).
