The Children Act 1989 places a statutory duty on health, education and other services, to help the LA in carrying out its social services functions under Part III of the Children Act 1989 and Section 47 enquiries. The professionals conducting Section 47 enquiries should do their utmost to secure willing cooperation and participation from all professionals and services, by being prepared to explain and justify their actions, and to demonstrate that the process is being managed in a way that can help to bring about better outcomes for children. The LSCB has an important role to play in cultivating and promoting a climate of trust and understanding between different professionals and services.
