Gang Activity

Safeguarding children who may have been affected by gang activity

This national guidance was published in March 2010. It aims to

  • aid understanding of the nature of risk that gang activity poses to children
  • identify how signs of gang involvement may manifest themselves
  • provide guidance on responding effectively to the needs of children and young people – girls and young women, and boys and young men  –  at risk of gang-related violence and harm.
  • assist agencies when working together to prevent young people from being drawn into gangs
  • appropriately identify, refer and support those who have been drawn into the margins of gangs
  • protect those who are at immediate risk of harm either as members or victims of gangs.
