All local authority employees have a responsibility to pass on any concerns about the welfare of a child to the Children and Young Peoples Services Department.
There is a duty to assist the Children and Young Peoples Services Department under Section 27 of the Children Act 1989 to share relevant information verbally and in writing, including the need to attend a child protection conference when requested.
Employees, if unsure, may consult with their line manager or with a manager in the Safeguarding Unit about their concerns. If those concerns are of a child protection nature they will be requested/advised to refer the information to the Customer Services Officers.
