Key points
A child protection conference can be requested by anyone working for an agency represented on the Local Safeguarding Children Board. If a social work manager decides to not call a child protection conference, those professionals who are most involved with the child and family, and who have taken part in the child protection enquiry, have the right to request a conference if they disagree with this decision [WTSC 2010 5.80]
How to do it
A child protection conference can be requested by a social work manager who will contact a duty independent reviewing officer in the Children’s Safeguarding Unit. The meeting should be held within 15 working days of the strategy discussion that initiated the s47 enquiries.
