Where looked after children are also subject to a child protection review conference, the two systems must be fully integrated. This means that a review of the child’s care plan held under the Looked After Children System should have all the information available to it from the review of the child that has been held under the child protection procedures.
Careful consideration should be given to the timing of the two reviews as well as to who should be involved.
Both reviews should be an inter-agency process.
Where a child cannot live at home and has a care plan which meets their care and protection needs, a review should normally recommend de-registration.
Where there is consideration being given to re-habilitating a child, who has been a Looked After child, back to their birth parents, a Child Protection Conference must be convened.
