Children Involved in Violent Extremism

Experience suggests that young people from their teenage years onwards can be particularly vulnerable to getting involved with radical groups, such as animal rights, far right politics and terrorist organisations, through direct contact with members or, increasingly, through the Internet. This can put a young person at risk of being drawn in to criminal activity and has the potential to cause significant harm

If any agency or practitioner has concerns that a young person is vulnerable to recruitment or may already have been recruited by violent extremists they must refer their concerns to Children’s Social Care and the Police. An initial assessment will be completed and a strategy discussion/meeting convened to decide how best to address the concerns raised.
