What Happens When children Subject to Child Protection Plans Live Outside of the Authority?

There may be exceptional circumstances where a child subject to a Child Protection Plan is living outside of the authority. In such situations, the lead social worker must formally notify the local authority in which the child is living of the child’s status.

The lead social worker must also inform the Safeguarding Unit, who will ensure that the local authority in which the child lives has been provided with the relevant documentation, and that local agencies have been notified.

The Safeguarding Unit must invite the local authority and other relevant agencies to any subsequent child protection conferences, and to join the core group.

Any child protection concerns that may occur while the child is resident in another local authority area must be investigated by that authority, and the child’s ‘home’ lead social worker must be invited to assist with any such enquiries. If such enquires do become necessary, the ‘home’ Safeguarding Unit must be notified, and they will liaise with the other authority regarding any arrangements for a child protection conference.
